a lot of times i feel like i am taking care of a pet. you have to feed, bathe, and play with evan...which is not much different than a dog. however, now he is becoming more human. he responds affectionately and recognizes us and raises his hands when he wants us to pick him up. we love it b/c overall he is a really happy kid. he laughs all day and makes funny faces.
he has a little box of toys with all of his favorites. do you know what he would rather play with now...wadded up packing tape and empty boxes. go figure. below is an example of his interest in the mundane.

1.11.11
well that is the first and last that that date will ever be... this year will be a year of many firsts... last year was a year of many lasts...
when paul and i realized how our lives are really gonna change after having a baby we mourned many things that we know will never happen again... a trip by ourselves (truly by ourselves without having another person on the back of our minds... worrying... wondering how that little person is doing)... a life spent worrying about "just us" (a little selfish i know but really really fun sometimes)... staying up late (knowing you'll be able to sleep in or catch up on missed sleep)... and it could go on and on...
it was sad at the time... like you are going to lose yourself... completely and imperatively...
i can't say that we have completely recovered nor have we found who we are yet as parents as people who are learning to be selfless but we are looking forward to many things... first birthdays :-) ... first teeth... first taste of beef... first vacation as a family... first flying experience... first steps... first big glimpse into how we are going to serve people in Austin as a family... we are excited

12 days... day 11
e is an intense kid. he plays hard, laughs hard, and poops hard. below you will see him pushing. he pushes so hard that he drools, and after the video, his eyes and head were red. he left us a really big poo...almost man sized poo. that is all. enjoy.

12 days... day 10
we knew evan would be into exploring different things since he was younger... he was always an observer and usually watches something for a while before he tries to touch it... very cautious...this video shows him finally touching paul's scruff with his feet... he also has been more coordinated with his feet and legs than his hands... weird kid i know

12 days... day 9
one of my most favorite things was when evan used to stretch in the morning or after his nap. he doesnt do it so much anymore. he would bend his elbows and raise them as high as possible, and if you were picking him up while he did this...he would be as stiff as a board.
