we take evan to the park as much as possible. he loves to swing...not just swing like a little. he likes to swing really high.
when we first sat him down in the gravel to play, he used to just sit there, people watch and not do much. more and more, he is actually playing. now he likes to gather gravel around him and throw it around. he will pick up sticks every now and then and throw those too.

tiger blood boiling
you know what makes evan's tiger blood boil? meat
actually that applies to the rest of this household... the other day evan had rudi's bbq for the first time and bacon today... "i think he likes it" is an understatement

Trying To Make Me Go To Rehab
evan is starting to do some assisted walking, but he looks like a rehab patient that needs to regain the use of their legs. its kinda funny. we forget how much learning went into walking. he still cant crawl, so we are hoping he will skip crawling and go straight to walking.
yesterday, he pulled himself off the ground and stood up for the first time. he was standing and leaning against the coffee table. he fell on his butt, and then all of a sudden, i see his head peeking out from behind the coffee table, and he picked himself up. i wish i could have seen his legs when he did it (i was on the other side of the coffee table). he has not been able to replicate the momentous occasion.
he is in a really clingy stage right now...especially at night. he doesnt want anyone but k.
we cant believe he is going to be 10 months this week! it has been so fast. we were looking at pics of him when he was just born.
he was so small!...
and now...
he is not.

i spy
this is for christy ann
one exciting thing about having a kid is seeing them learn how to do different things... we look forward to evan's new tricks...
trick 1: flipping over (we have a video of this oh sometime ago when he was just barely 2 months old)... evan scared us into thinking that he is this super determined person who has uncanny strength and physical prowess... i think it's a fluke because he's now 9 months and he isn't crawling nor is he pulling to get up... he's either hampered by that ghetto booty or he's walking around the house looking for things to eat when we think he's sleeping
trick 2: standing on his own... yes, this he can do now. it's kinda funny though seeing how careful he is... i try to entice him to move around but he is always testing how far he can let go before settling back into his stance... he doesn't like feeling like he's about to fall... today he's showing signs of courage as he lets go of the table and holds on to me to keep his balance
paul's dad said that when paul was younger he was too afraid of many things... i think someone is taking after his dad
whoa how did he get up there
trick 3: chewing (without any teeth)... how does he do it? but he loves eating noodles and bits of meat or egg yolk or cheese
trick 4: signing "more"... can it be true? he's only done this a couple of times... once when paul was trying to feed him noodles which was so funny... he was signing more but in true evan fashion he's too lazy to put his hands together he just waves his arms halfway as a sign for more (you're supposed to put both hands together like this
anyway, he still doesn't do it consistently but it's so cool to know he's beginning to understand 1% of what we're trying to tell him ... 99% more to go
trick 5: saying "dada" to paul... again i don't know if this is for real because he only did it once but one time saying dada is more than zero times saying mama... score for paul
trick 6: holding his hands up for us to pick him up... this is just so precious
tricks he's learning: waving bye (we've been trying to learn this for a couple of months now)
tricks he's not interested in learning: crawling (if he can't reach something he'd much rather find something else to do... sigh)
in other news lack of sleep has put me on the "it's not necessary to card you bec you look like you're old enough" category
toodles from butternut (we call evan this sometimes) and ahjumah (old lady in korean)

Happy Belated 9 Month Birthday Evan :)
evan turned 9 mos yesterday. he had a doctors appointment and here is the rundown...
22 lbs - 75th percentile
29 inches - 75th percentile
that means that he is starting to thin out a bit (although you wouldnt be able to tell if you saw him eat), but he jumped from the 50th percentile in height 3 mos ago to the 75th...sweet! please dont be short...please dont be short. however, his head is still only in the 25 percentile...so he still has a small head...oh well, you cant win them all.
tonight he ate 1 whole avocado, almost 1/3 of a banana, and multigrain rice cereal...along with licking an apple, and he will prob have about 8 oz of milk tonight. if you put all that food into a ball, it would be bigger than both my hands put together. HOW DOES HE FIT THAT INTO HIS BODY?!?!?!?!
his favorite meals...
-blueberry, apple, and multigrain cereal
-anything with avocado
-anything with banana
-things flavored with cumin
-things flavored with garlic
-cheese...he inherited this from both uncle moussas
-carrots, celery, chicken, and whole milk yogurt
-beef...is this really surprising...look at his parental units.
-anything with whole milk yogurt
-anything we are eating
-water...when in a cup...not in a sippee cup (remember he likes doing what we do, and we dont drink from sippee cups)
so we are teaching him to grab food and put them in his mouth. he is pretty animated when he eats, and always likes to eat what we eat, he doesnt want baby food anymore. here is an example of him doing that very thing...

Do You Ever Feel Like a Plastic Bag
a lot of times i feel like i am taking care of a pet. you have to feed, bathe, and play with evan...which is not much different than a dog. however, now he is becoming more human. he responds affectionately and recognizes us and raises his hands when he wants us to pick him up. we love it b/c overall he is a really happy kid. he laughs all day and makes funny faces.
he has a little box of toys with all of his favorites. do you know what he would rather play with now...wadded up packing tape and empty boxes. go figure. below is an example of his interest in the mundane.
